Programs

The Foundation has done several projects and special events over the years. One that was popular with Bismarck Public School staff was a computer buy-down program. Basically, the Foundation helped pay the interest on computer loans for employee personal use. The Foundation felt if school employees owned their own computer, they would soon feel more comfortable using technology on the job and in the classroom. One hundred BPS employees took part in the computer buy-down project.

Each year, the BPS Foundation brings the Minneapolis Children's Theater Company to Bismarck. The purpose is to provide an educational theater opportunity to participating parents, students and teachers. Past performances have included Strega Nona, Mark Twain, Ramona Quimby, Wondrous Tales of Old Japan, Tremendously Tall Tales, Lyle the Crocodile, Grimm Tales, Snowflake, and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.

The BPS Foundation supports the Summer Foreign Language Camp for kids, in cooperation with Bismarck State College. This camp offers French, Spanish, German, and Norwegian. Scholarships are available to deserving students. To learn more about this opportunity, contact your classroom teacher!

The Art Gallery Program provides art history and hands-on art projects for all public school children in grades K-6, as well as students in several private schools. This program receives funds from the BPS Foundation.

The Photography Unit is available to all sixth grade classrooms in the Bismarck Public School. It involves hands on camera and darkroom experiences with professional and amateur photographers.

Mini-Grants are available to all Bismarck Public School teachers for project that have been approved but not funded by the BPS. $160,109.23 has been awarded to BPS teachers since 2001.
